More than 25 million retirees depend on social security for their income…that’s about $1,300 a month to live on. It’s not going to go far and not how you want to spend 30 years of your life. To help you avoid that retirement crisis, I’m going to help you get started on a retirement portfolio that will not only grow your money but also protect it so you know it’s there when you need it. In this video, I’ll share three retirement investing rules for how to pick stocks. I’ll then reveal five stocks to buy for your retirement portfolio, five stocks I have in my own portfolio. The first rule of investing for retirement is you need to be looking for income. A company doesn’t need to be paying 3%+ in dividend yields but it at least needs to be paying something to prove that commitment to shareholder cash return. By the time you’re ready to retire, the dividends will be higher and you’ll have that consistent income. The second rule for retirement investing is looking for safe stocks. Your retirement portfolio isn’t the place for penny stocks and other high-risk investments. This doesn’t mean you can’t get growth as well. By investing in stocks benefiting from long-term trends, you know the company will be around for decades. The third rule of stocks to buy for retirement is survivability. Dividends and growth count for nothing if that company doesn’t last the decades to your retirement. For this you need to be looking at the balance sheet and things like the Quick Ratio or how much cash flow the company collects. Don’t miss those five stocks to buy for your portfolio.
